Music is a program to motivate our
students to help them develop self-awareness, social interaction,
communication, coordination, self-expression, and confidence.
Art - Our students work with charcoal, collage,
acrylics, water color, and finger paints, as well as mixed media. We have
created a quality art education program that provides opportunities for
individuals working at all ability levels. Our classes are open to all
people, for all ages, and all disabilities. New classes start monthly.
Our teacher, Shannon Danks, a local artist, has brought an exciting new
approach to teaching art to students with disabilities. Her versatile
talents and abilities, along with her boundless energy, have bridged
gaps and achieved phenomenal milestones in working with these students
of varying disabilities.
Bowling - People often ask us if this is an
integrated program, meaning are all people of the community
allowed to participate? The answer is of course, yes! However, our
actual goal was instead to teach our bowlers how they could
integrate themselves into regular society. Now that our bowlers
have about two years of experience under their belt, I can honestly tell
you that more than 50% of our participants can now bowl in any league
they want to. Along with huge improvements in their scores, they have
learned lane etiquette, how to keep score and read the monitors, how to
interact, cooperate, and be social. Meets at Majestic Lanes on 164 th
Street SW, east of Wal-Mart in Lynnwood.
Cooking - We've learned to make many recipes from
Apple Pie to Shepherd's Pie and a lot in between. We've learned how to
measure and peel and boil, but the most fun of all is to be able to sit
down and have a terrific lunch. Our ages range from high school to 82,
and all ages from both genders in between. The common thing that binds
us together is our love of cooking good food and the many new friends we
are making. Some of us have been out of school for a few years and this
is such a wonderful opportunity to talk to other people that like to do
the same things we like to do. Will you join us?
Swimming - located at Forest Park in Everett, is
a great opportunity to socialize with the community while enjoying
swimming, playing water basketball or relaxing in the hot tub.
Life vests are provided if needed.
